  • Duru Lemon Eau de Cologne - Kolonya Limon

The word "Kolonya" comes from the world cologne and it means fresh scented water. Since the Ottoman Empire, Kolonya has been a symbol of Turkish hospitality and health. Typically, these Kolonya's were scented with rosewater giving them a very sweet flowery smell that fills the rooms where they are sprayed.  In Turkey, Kolonya is still used in this traditional way and it can also be used as a cosmetic cologne.

Originally, Kolonya was used for medicinal purposes and it is still used this way in Turkey today. Also, in Turkey, many people used Kolonya for its antiseptic properties and for massage.  Kolonya can provide relief for muscle and joint pain.  The high alcohol content in Kolonya is very refreshing and as such, it is offered to guests when they enter a Turkish home using it as a refreshing fragrance. Traditionally, in Turkey, Kolonya is also used to treat dizziness, fainting, and headaches and also to clean or disinfect since it has anti-bacterial effects.  Traditionally, this Kolonya is sprinkled on guests’ hands as they enter homes, hotels and hospitals.  It is also common to spray on your hands when you finish meals at restaurants or as they gather for religious services. Unlike other natural scents, this ethanol-based Kolonya has a high alcohol content and as such, can kill more than 80% of germs and act as an effective hand disinfectant.
